The ENKOM Voice-Break-In (VBI) solution is a scalable and updatable transmitter system for DAB/DAB+ and FM. It is strictly developed according to the Software Defined Radio (SDR) principle.

VBI‘s operation is mainly focused to In-tunnel broadcast systems. Highest priority here is to provide seamless In-car coverage and audio reception for both standard operation as well as in the case of emergency. Therefore existing DAB/DAB+ ensembles on air outside the tunnel are analysed and the audio payload replaced with customer specific content (e.g. emergency message) whenever needed. The modified DAB+ ensemble is then synchronised and fed into the tunnel by the repeater system. Tunnel operators can switch from original broadcast source to modified signal without questioning signal receiption or interrupt on customer side. |

The controller unit contains an ENKOM SDR receiver (see PerMIT) for the internal self-check and controls the scalable amount of Multiplexes (MUX). The same procedure is used to auto-detect and -follow the DAB ensemble configuration and changes.
